About
Julie Marsh began writing online in 2005. Her first site, mothergoosemouse, was a traditional parenting blog. Discovering that her interests lay in political and social commentary, she launched The Mom Slant — an op-ed blog with a parenting twist.
In spite of the proliferation of outspoken parenting blogs, mainstream media and advertisers still can’t quite seem to get a clear picture of modern motherhood. Determine to break free of the labels, the assumptions, and the broad brush strokes, Julie’s speaking for herself at The Mom Slant.
Julie is also the Director of Ad Sales at Cool Mom Picks, a cheeky shopping blog for parents, focused on small, independent businesses and fabulous design. With Cool Mom Picks since 2006, she’s been a contributor, copywriter, and technical editor, and she’s proud to have played a longtime role in amassing CMP’s devoted following.
Finally, she currently writes for The Stir on CafeMom twice weekly, occasionally for The Imperfect Parent, and is a founding member of Blog With Integrity.
Julie moderated the Beyond the FTC session at Mom 2.0 Summit in February 2010, and spoke as a panelist at the Storytelling and Memoir session at the annual BlogHer conference in August 2010. She is a contributor to the upcoming anthology Mothers of Intention by Joanne Bamberger, and in August 2010 she was honored by Parenting magazine as a Must Read Mom.
A former Air Force officer and music industry project manager, Julie now lives outside Denver with her husband and three young children. When she’s not writing or chauffeuring her children around town, Julie competes in sprint triathlons and devours science non-fiction. Her special talents include an uncanny ability to recall phone numbers and extensive knowledge of 80’s pop music lyrics.
