For the first time in over 12 years, and for only the second time in my life, I’m in Las Vegas. Vegas is not my idea of a vacation destination. Fortunately, I’m here on business.
But since I’m here on business with two of my closest friends, we went out on the town for some jaw-dropping Japanese and some equally jaw-dropping people watching. The pole dancers at the Hard Rock. The Rock of Love Bus wannabe with the Bump It. The woman with the scuffed flats from 1983 and the polyester shawl masquerading as a pashmina probably bought a Barry Manilow towel and will display it proudly in her powder room. Some Vegas vacationers make me laugh, and some just make me sad. So I’m trying to see the kitsch in Vegas and enjoy it for the broad cross-section of people who visit.
Fortunately, an amazing dinner at Nobu helped put me in an especially charitable mood last night. Viva Las Vegas!
Vegas: Love it or hate it?

I’ve never been. I have less than zero interest in gambling (or, uh, pole dancers) but I might like the shows. But if I’m going somewhere with a few good friends, I know I’ll have a good time, even if it is in some smoky casino!
Love, love Vegas. I have friends and family there, so I have been going since I was a kid. My favorite things are outside of the Strip, though (driving west on Sahara heading out to Red Rock is my all-time favorite). If you get a chance, do check out the Bellagio fountains and conservatory – two of my favorites things to see on LV Boulevard.
Hmmm, interesting question. I was there last weekend with my best friend and I had a blast. Of course, I had a blast because I was with her, not because we did any of the things people normally associate Vegas with. I do like watching people though and being in Vegas is like watching the best and worst reality TV show, all at once. Hope you, Kristen and Liz had fun.
I’ve never been but it’s so funny- tonight while washing dishes I watched What Happens In Vegas. So, um. I’ve never really wanted to go there but I do think it might be one of those things I should at least do once in my life! I hear the shopping is great- is that true? Or is it all Barry Manilow towels?A

PS I saw the Twitpics and you look FABULOUS!
Steph
Aw, thanks Steph! There is great shopping – beyond the Barry Manilow store, of course – and great food too. And I don’t mean the all-u-can-eat buffets.
Have fun! Would you believe (maybe you will) that I have never been to Vegas?
The photos via twitter totally cracked me up. Oh the shenanigans with the 3 of you in tandem. -Christine
Am missing you already. Well, you and Barry. Together. 4 ever.
