You might recognize me as the blogger formerly known as mothergoosemouse. I wrote there for nearly four years before starting The Mom Slant.
What prompted me to start over? Primarily, it was my desire to focus on op-ed posts, but from the viewpoint of a mother. The world isn’t black and white, and it’s been the challenge of explaining those gray areas to my children that has led me to re-examine my own views through a new lens. In teaching my children to look at all sides of an issue, I’ve begun doing so myself. It’s been illuminating, to say the least.
I don’t allow myself the luxury of subscribing to one party’s political platform or an immutable set of religious tenets. I don’t hold up any document as the absolute standard by which I or anyone else ought to live – except perhaps for the Golden Rule. This creates some difficulty in explaining my philosophy and outlook to others, but I will embrace that challenge here at The Mom Slant.
